A JPEG on the book cover joined with a rar containing the book is a sweet way of exchanging amongst the more literary internet types. I always thought this was a cool way of distributing something, and it even <i>looks</i> inconspicuous. Unless they look at the file size. Some of the slooowest programmers I've seen were "language snobs". ;) I wish I could mind-meld this concept with game programmers. "No getters", Demter and Data Driven design, etc work well if not taken as an absolute rule IMO. The original OO. I hear Apple has an official port of Squeak (Smalltalk VM) for the iPhone. In fact, Smalltalk seems to be bubbling through the cracks in a lot of places lately. Maybe it's just a local trend on Reddit, or maybe it's the beginning of Smalltalk's (re-)ascension to the OO throne? Yeah, it’s incredibly Smalltalk-y: objects sending messages to each other. Very smalltalk-y, if I'm correctly remembering how that all works. I should try putting my head in that mindset for a while and seeing what happens. <del datetime="2008-06-13T08:36:20+00:00">(It looks like the primary link up there is a trackback thinger, not a link to the article, btw. While I definitely agree with you - don't use that approach where I work - I think Eckel wouldn't actually use it either, on a real project, and it's something he did simply for pedagogical reasons.
