Giving Everyone The Bird!

No one likes working for “The Man.” I previously worked for “The Man” of our little industry, Electronic Arts. And then I was indie… and now, I work for “The Man” again.

Or, rather, I work for “The Bird.”

Last week, in a humble little legal procedure called “incorporation,” a quasi-real (but wholly legal) entity was formed in the Great State of Delaware. Its first act as a corporate entity was to hire myself and my business partner and appoint us officers of the corporation with all rights and obligations thereof.

So, I guess I’m officially employed now. Employed by the corporate entity that only exists on paper and in our imagination. At least I hold a controlling interest! ;-)

Our little guy was born last week, simultaneously incorporated in the halls of Delaware as he was given form in the notebooks of our concept artists. His image is lurking about the web (find it if you can!), but I’ll leave you with just the name for now: Mockingbird Games, Inc.

I guess it’s official, huh?

That’s definitely the domain name. Unfortunately, Mockingbird.com was taken and the guys wouldn’t budge (and really didn’t get what we were asking, I think). We’ve got a few variations on the the name including some previous names we thought of but decided against. Frustrating about the obvious one, indeed!

I hope to get a logo up there next week.

    Hey Troy,

Great news! I just know you’ll have a hugely fun time and make a lot of money too. Keep letting us know what life on the outside is like.

Troy, congrats, my friend. I always thought highly of you and knew you’d rise to and surpass new challenges. I ran in to Nick at Basils Cafe and he updated me of your status. Proud of you for taking the risks so many of us won’t take. I, too, have a newly formed corporate identity with plans to eventually stray away from ‘the man’. Of course, now your bosses will be the consumers, banks, lawyers, stakeholders and government agencies. By the way, what projects have you played a heavy production/guidance role in at EA? On another note, congrats on the blessing of father hood.
